New Hire Orientation

A structured programme welcoming new employees on their first day or week.

Full Definition

New hire orientation is the initial process of welcoming a new employee to the organization — typically covering health and safety briefings, workplace tours, introductions to team members, IT setup, and an overview of company culture, values, and policies. Orientation differs from onboarding in that it covers the first days, while onboarding is a longer process that can last 90 days or more. A positive first-day experience significantly impacts long-term retention and how quickly new employees become productive.
