Talent Review

A structured process for evaluating and calibrating employee performance and potential.

Full Definition

A talent review is a structured HR process — typically annual — in which senior leaders and HR assess the performance and potential of employees, often using tools like the 9-box grid (plotting performance on one axis and potential on the other). Talent reviews identify high performers and high-potential employees (HiPos) for accelerated development, flag performance concerns, and inform succession planning decisions. HR software provides talent review templates, calibration tools, and data visualization to support fair, evidence-based talent discussions.
