Collective Bargaining

Negotiation between employers and trade unions over pay and working conditions.

Full Definition

Collective bargaining is the process by which trade unions or employee representatives negotiate with employers on behalf of a group of workers to agree on terms and conditions of employment — including pay, working hours, holidays, health and safety, and disciplinary procedures. Collective agreements reached through bargaining are legally binding in many countries. HR professionals play a key role in managing employer-side collective bargaining strategy and maintaining productive union relationships.
