Gender Pay Gap

The difference in average earnings between men and women in an organization.

Full Definition

The gender pay gap is the difference between the average earnings of men and women across an organization, expressed as a percentage of men's earnings. It is distinct from equal pay (which compares pay for the same work) — the gender pay gap reflects broader structural issues such as occupational segregation, underrepresentation of women in senior roles, and unconscious bias. In the UK, organizations with 250+ employees must publish their gender pay gap data annually. HR analytics tools support pay gap analysis and reporting.
