Paid leave granted to the partner of a new mother following childbirth or adoption.
Paternity leave is statutory paid leave available to the partner of a woman who has given birth or adopted a child. In the UK, eligible employees are entitled to 1 or 2 weeks of Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP) at the flat rate or 90% of average weekly earnings (whichever is lower). Many employers offer enhanced paternity leave as part of their benefits package. The entitlement gap between maternity and paternity leave is increasingly being addressed by countries introducing equal shared parental leave models.
