Appraisal

A formal assessment of an employee's performance, skills, and development needs.

Full Definition

An appraisal (also called a performance review or evaluation) is a structured meeting between a manager and employee to assess performance, discuss development needs, and set future objectives. Appraisals can be annual, semi-annual, or quarterly. Effective appraisals are two-way conversations that motivate employees, identify training needs, and align individual goals with business objectives. HR software digitizes the appraisal process with structured forms, rating scales, and automated scheduling.
