Buddy Programme

A scheme pairing new employees with experienced colleagues for informal support.

Full Definition

A buddy programme pairs new hires with experienced employees (buddies) who provide informal support, answer questions, and help the new joiner navigate the organization during their first weeks. Unlike a mentor (who focuses on long-term career development), a buddy focuses on practical integration — helping the new employee find their feet quickly, feel welcomed, and understand how things work day-to-day. Research shows that buddy programmes improve new hire satisfaction and reduce early turnover.
