Misconduct

Employee behaviour that breaches workplace rules or standards.

Full Definition

Misconduct refers to employee behaviour that violates workplace rules, policies, or standards of conduct. It is typically categorized as minor misconduct (e.g. persistent lateness, minor policy breaches) or gross misconduct (e.g. theft, violence, serious safety violations, fraud). Minor misconduct is usually addressed through the disciplinary procedure with warnings. Gross misconduct may result in summary dismissal (dismissal without notice). Accurate documentation of all misconduct cases is essential for legal protection.
