What UAE Law Requires

Built for Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021

What the UAE labour law requires of an employer, article by article, and what HRMZY does about each.

Annual leave under Article 29

Not less than 30 days a year, and two days for each month where service exceeds six months but is under a year. HRMZY accrues on exactly that basis rather than a flat annual grant. Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, Art. 29

End-of-service gratuity

Article 51 sets 21 days' wage for each of the first five years and 30 days' for each year beyond, on basic wage, for foreign full-time workers past one year of continuous service. HRMZY accrues it per employee against basic wage and service length. Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, Art. 51

Probation and notice

Probation may not exceed six months, and termination during it needs at least 14 days' written notice. HRMZY holds probation end dates and surfaces them before they lapse. Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, Art. 9

Working hours

Article 17 sets a maximum of eight hours a day or forty-eight a week. HRMZY records attendance and overtime against the shift pattern you configure. Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, Art. 17

Termination notice periods

Notice is whatever the contract agrees within a floor of 30 days and a ceiling of 90. HRMZY stores the contractual period per employee so the correct one is applied. Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, Art. 43

Visa and Emirates ID expiry

Passport and visa records are held per employee with expiry dates tracked, so renewals surface before they lapse rather than after.

Arabic interface

Arabic is one of the product-UI languages, so employees can use self-service and requests in Arabic.

Multi-currency payroll

Dirham payroll runs alongside other currencies for companies paying staff across the GCC and beyond, with reporting in your base currency.

UAE Compliance

Built for MOHRE Rules, WPS Payroll and End-of-Service Gratuity

UAE employment is governed by Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 and enforced through systems no other market has — salaries must move through the Wage Protection System, and gratuity accrues from an employee's first year.

Wage Protection System payroll

Pay runs produce the salary-file structure WPS requires, so wages are transferred through approved channels and the transfer record matches the payroll register line for line.

End-of-service gratuity

Gratuity is calculated on basic wage and continuous service — 21 days' wage for each of the first five years and 30 days' wage for each year beyond — applied automatically, with unpaid leave excluded from service length, so the liability is visible before someone resigns. Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, Art. 51

Annual leave, and the 30-day entitlement

Annual leave accrues at not less than 30 days per year of service, and at two days per month where an employee has served more than six months but less than a year. Leave, public holidays and unpaid days are tracked together because each one changes gratuity. Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, Art. 29

Emiratisation and workforce reporting

Nationality, visa and labour-card details are held on the employee record with expiry alerts, and headcount can be reported by nationality to support Emiratisation targets.

Probation end dates are held per employee and surface before they lapse. That date carries weight: probation may not exceed six months, and terminating during it requires at least 14 days of written notice.
